Ann Widdecombe has admitted that it would have been a "travesty" if she had stayed onStrictly Come Dancing at the expense of Scott Maslen.The former Conservative MP was eliminatedfrom the BBC competition last night after finishing in the bottom two alongside Maslen.
Widdecombe - who defied consistently low judges' scores to remain in the contest - said that she is sad to be leaving the show but insisted that the public made the right decision.
"I knew we were going out because we were the only two left who weren't up to the standard of the others," she told The Sun.
"It would have been a travesty if I had stayed and Scott had gone out. It would have been quite wrong. Scott is a dancer and I'm not.
"I'm a bit disappointed. But you've got very, very, top notch high-performing dancers. For heaven's sake, I'm still trying to do one, two, three!"
The 63-year-old also defended the role of the Strictly judges and said that she was not offended by their harsh critiques. She added: "Their job's to address technical performance. They have a job to do."
However, Widdecombe declared that she will not be rushing back to the ballroom after she finishes her stint on the upcoming Strictly tour. She announced: "When it ends, I shall not be dancing again."
