Jenkins told The AP that she realises that it will be a significant challenge to attain the same success in America that she's achieved in the UK.
"I've always wanted to be successful here and I think that it's such a massive thing and a very difficult thing to do," she said.
The star continued: "And I'm very realistic about the fact that at this point in time nobody knows me here. And it's starting again from the beginning and I quite like that. I'm just going to come... and sing my music and hope that people respond to it."
Jenkins also added that she has been pleasantly surprised by the revived public interest in classical music.
She explained: "I think that classical music and opera has had a makeover in the last few years. I think that there's been a huge change in how people perceive this kind of music."
The star has scored three platinum albums in the UK since she released Second Nature in 2004.
Jenkins will make her acting debut in the Doctor Who one-off holiday special, which will air at Christmas on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.
