Bono has said that working on the Spider-Man musical was "pure joy".
The upcoming Broadway production is to feature original music by the U2 frontman and guitarist The Edge.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Bono explained: "Dreaming up the show, the scale of it, the flying sequence, the pop-art opera that it is - that was all pure joy."
Of the show's many delays and budget problems, he admitted: "What we didn't realise was how difficult it is to stage this stuff, both technically and financially."
Bono also claimed that director Julie Taymor's stage production would be a one-of-a-kind affair.
He added: "It has never been achieved before - the kind of scale of what we're looking for. There may be very good reasons [for the delays]. We're going to find out. The expense of it? A lot of it was the delays."
The rocker further declared that the show has the potential to be "a great American story"
