Cee Lo Green has admitted that the success of his latest single 'Forget You' took him by surprise.

In an interview with The AP, the musician declared that he was totally unprepared when his latest track became popular online.

"We had to kind of react after 'Forget You' was released," he said. "It was such an immediate, overwhelming response. Far [beyond] my own personal expectations, you know."

The star added: "I think I speak on behalf of almost everyone to say that it just surpasses what we could have imagined... A song entitled as such... I could've more easily assumed where it wouldn't work as opposed to where it would."

Green also revealed that he doesn't always rely on real life experience when he writes new songs.

The former Goodie Mob frontman explained: "It's not a whole truth, the storyline that is. It just depends. Not everything is biographical. Some things are third-person. Some things are vicarious, other things are cathartic."

Green recently praised Gwyneth Paltrow's performance of 'Forget You' on Glee.
