Sir Elton John and partner David Furnish spending time together on a yacht in Saint-Tropez, France

Elton John has joked that Lady GaGa is her b**tard daughter.

The 'Rocket Man' singer, who has performed with GaGa on a number of occasions, also believes she is inspired by his own music.

"She is kind of like the b**tard daughter of Elton John," he said in an interview on Live with Regis and Kelly.

"If I had a daughter it would be GaGa, no doubt. She has the same penchant for high shoes; she’s great."

He continued: "She is influenced by so many people - you can see it... she is like all of us. When I first started out I was influenced by people and then you gradually form a character of your own."

Discussing their forthcoming duet, which features on the film Gnomeo and Juliet, he revealed: "GaGa was fantastic to work with - we did a duet called 'Hello, Hello'."
