Controversy is trailing the selection of the Young Person of the Year by respected youth events organizers, The Future Awards.
A popular online news and entertainment journal, BellaNaija.com, says the validity of the list of nominees is questionable.“I have no beef with Genevieve being recognized but I have a problem with the rules of engagement . Chude and his crew refused to recognize many because of the age thing. In fact nominees are lying about their age because of this. We all know Genevieve’s age, so what changed? I sure did not see any announcement that the age rule had changed.
There should be standards, if not, The Future Awards should not hold ” said a commentator on the site. Another commentator wondered whether the cut off age was 30 while another comment reads, “Of course Genevieve will be the topic of the day! This is why I refused to read or listen to anything about entertainment in Nigeria, when people like Debo, Makinde, Nnaemeka and even Blessing who work so hard to help their environment, and promote education are hardly talked about or encouraged by giving them space in Nigerian newspapers.
All we see is fashion this, movie that, and album launching”. Another said “Remember, there are many awards for artists and people in the entertainment industry year round but there are very few for scientists, athletes, innovators and Advocates! Choose wisely!
